La Zambra

Once known as Byblos, this five-star retreat reimagines its legacy as a hidden Andalusian escape. Named after a flamenco dance, the identity centres on a statement monogram extended into pattern, supported by a lyrical tone of voice and a photography concept that expresses its dual identity of day and night.

Logo Development

Constructed from four interlocking Z-shapes, the monogram translates the zambra flamenco dance into a graphic emblem. Its knot-like centre echoes the blouse tied below the chest in the traditional costume, while the outward flow of the forms suggests movement and rhythm.

Balancing expression with structure, the mark stands as both ornament and statement — an adornment rooted in Andalusian culture, and a mark of quality, tradition, and pride. The identity is completed by a companion logotype, styled in a slightly angular sans-serif that complements the monogram’s geometry.

Visual Element

When multiplied, the monogram develops into a pattern that extends the logo into surface and space. Its interlocking geometry recalls Moorish latticework and Andalusian ornament, creating a visual link to the region’s architecture.

Used across applications, the pattern acts as both decoration and texture, a subtle device that anchors the brand in its cultural context while adding depth and versatility to the identity system.

Visual Element

Multiplying once again, the monogram turns into a pattern subtly hinting at details in local architecture, Andalusian lace, and a memory of La Zambra’s 70s heydays.

A defining feature of La Zambra’s identity is the distinction between day and night, expressed through a dedicated colour palette and photography.

By day, warm earthy tones drawn from terracotta, forest, and sand set the atmosphere alongside the hotel’s natural surroundings. Imagery of people, nature, and architecture carries a serene character, marked by subdued light, a textural play of shadows, and warm tones that evoke calmness, balance, and quiet luxury.

By night, vibrant tones of coral red, orange, and bright green set the atmosphere for two contrasting concepts of imagery. One is a refined continuation of the day, in black and white, where grain, motion blur, and fleeting details evoke elegance and allure.

The other is bold and unrestrained, with hard flash and saturated colour capturing candid party moments in all their hedonistic spontaneity. Together, they embody the passion, vibrancy, and abandon of La Zambra’s nights.

The nightime mood of La Zambra focusses on one hand on its glamorous past with images maintaining partly the elegant and soft beauty of the daytime photography. An additional style of imagery is reserved for the more secretive, hedonistic side of La Zambra - featuring bright colours and hard flash.
